Las Minas
Las Minas is one of the districts that make up the province of Herrera, located in the republic of Panama. Las Minas is located on the higher lands in Herrera, and as such is mostly composed of mountain regions where you can find the el Montuoso Natural Reserve where La Villa river, the main river of the Azuero Peninsula, begins.
The people of Las Minas mostly live off the land, practicing agriculture in all of its forms. There are neither factories nor big industries in Las Minas. The district’s main holidays are Carnival Tuesdays, where the big square-off between the rival streets caps off in a huge celebration from sun down to sun up. Other festivities include the Fair of the Flower of the Holy Spirit, or “Feria de la Flor del Espíritu Santo,” and the Santa Barbara festivities celebrated in December.

As it is with several of the districts in the province of Chitre, Los Pozos is very proud of its Panamanian heritage and as such you will see much pre-Columbine architecture and inherently Panamanian practices and festivities.
Ocú
Ocú is one of the districts that make up the province of Herrera, located in the republic of Panama. The district of Ocú is most probably the one with the deepest roots to its Panamanian heritage out of all the cities in the republic of Panama, and they wear it like a badge of courage. They boast about their inherently Panamanian traditions and customs, celebrating them every chance they get, be it in Carnivals, the International Mejorana fair or “Feria Internacional de la Mejorana,” and more.

With more than 8,000 residents and an important historical legacy, the city of Parita continues to be a colonial town that attracts the attention of both national and international tourism. Parita is the oldest Hispanic, indigenous settlement in the Azuero Peninsula region, having been founded in 1558. They’re proud of their heritage as well as rich ethnic and religious background.
Pesé
Pesé is one of the districts that make up the province of Herrera, located in the republic of Panama. There is much speculation on the origins of Pesé, both the name and the district itself. Originally believed to be named after a cacique that ruled over the area during pre-Columbian times, now many experts beg to differ on the origins of the name “Pesé.” Nevertheless, Pesé is a beautiful valley town of approximately 12,500 residents surrounded by lush, natural beauty.
Santa María
Santa María is one of the districts that make up the province of Herrera, located in the republic of Panama. Santa María is composed of 5 towns: Santa María, Chupampa, El Rincón, El Limón and Los Canelos. Like other areas of the province of Herrera, they have a tight gripo n their Panamanian roots and are avid in agriculture. You will not find any factories or big industries in Santa María, and the townsfolk very much like it that way.
