Whale and Dolphin Spotting In Panama

A Humpback Whale Off Panama’s Pacific Coast

This time of year is one of the best times to catch a glimpse of whales and dolphins off the coast of Panama. Whale watching tours are not as common in Panama as they are in the colder, further north waters of the Pacific Ocean. Your best bet to see whales and dolphins is to hire a local fisherman and have him take you out on the water.

Humpback whales are rearing their young right now fairly close to shore in Panama’s warm Pacific waters. You don’t necessarily have to leave Panama City to spot them either. On occasion, whales can be seen from Balboa Avenue.

To spot dolphins you will have to leave the shore but it is certainly worth it. This past weekend I was able to see dozens of dolphins as they chased and lead the boat I was in. The afternoon like I had, could certainly be a feature in a nature magazine.

Whale and dolphin spotting in Panama is an experience you will never forget!
