USA Soccer Fans Unite in Panama, Central America
![]()
This is a call to any US Soccer fan living in Panama, Central America. Man, woman, man-woman. Woman-child. As difficult as it can be at home in the USA to find fans who root for the red, white and blue National team, it can be an even more arduous task here in Panama. Accordingly, finding the matches on TV and finding a safe place to watch them (meaning, somewhere you won’t be heckled or have stuff thrown at you) can be tricky and if you’re like me, you’ve experienced one too many downers.
So this is a call, for all USA Soccer fans (that’s USMNT fans) to meet up in some safe harbor (I have a little guest room but not sure we could fit everyone if it’s more than 4 people) for the all-important matches in the coming months. Some may say we’ll get creamed by Spain. Other’s say we’ll be eaten alive by England. And just recently, I read a post saying Argentina was thinking about playing their U-17 squad, blind-folded. Either way, it’ll be nice to be in Panama and enjoying the experience together.
Gooch is having a great season in Belgium, Michael Bradley is a phenom in Holland, and Bobby Convey just stinks at Reading. But if you’re like me, you don’t care how our players are doing abroad as long as we put in a collaborative effort together.
I’d like suggestions as for places that consistently have the games: Veneto Casino is my best bet so far but they’re a little retarded when it comes to scheduling and turning on the right channel. Another OK one is El Pescadito in Marbella because they let you mess with the remote controls. The time of the games are always questionable, so if anyone knows an experienced Time-Zone expert who can help us on a game-by-game basis, that’d be good too. Additionally, anyone with a large flag or fog horn would be welcome. If you get some special Direct TV package from the States, let us know. If anyone has any ideas at all, please post them below.
Note: If you’re the guy who’s about to use our comment area below to post a) “Soccer Sucks!” or b) “USA Soccer Sucks!” or c) “Matt, you suck for writing this article, get out of Panama!”, please don’t as I’ll simply discard your comment in the section we have labeled ‘negative nancies’.

Panamat,
I don’t live in Panama, but happened to be there during the Olympic qualifiers when we beat Panama. We watched the game on the roof terrace bar at the Wyndham. Not ideal, but nice.
Goodluck finding some compatriotas…
I don’t live down there yet, But I will be in town with another soccer fan Wed, Thurs and Fri of next week to pick out tiles for my new house in Rio Mar. Are there any games during that time? We would love to get involved. Also where should I buy tiles? Elmec, Casa de Materiales, Cochez y Cia, or somewhere else?
Trey
Hey Trey,
I think the next game is in late May meaning you’ll miss it. Too bad, but let us know when you’re round for the next one. Regarding the tiles for your house, Elmec is my favorite. You should also consider Dos Pinos (best for bathrooms, smaller company, good for industrial stuff). Bonavel is the other one, as far as I know the only one here with Kohler, but the downside is that the service sucks.
