The Archbishop of Panama’s Call to Arms

According to La Prensa the Archbishop of Panama since 1994, José Dimas Cedeño, made several phone calls yesterday to politicians and government authorities regarding the defense of social welfare programs.
During the recent celebration of the 38th date of the Eucharist, the Archbishop stated his critical opinion of the money spent on political propaganda and activities calling them a “slap in the face of the poor.” What is more, he called for the eradication of this sort of corruption, saying that those who wish to enrich themselves are not fit to govern. I couldn’t agree with him more heartily given the money spent all over the country on costly campaigning during this political season. It sure seems like the money used on winning the presidency could be spent elsewhere. Not to mention, the use of billboards and banners, of painting steps and walls around the city seems to me a tad outdated.
The Archbishop also requested what I have been patiently waiting for months to see, the platforms of the potential presidential candidates which should be coming out soon as the primaries are right around the corner.
