The Amador Causeway in Panama City, Panama
The most convenient way to get to the Amador Causeway is by taxi. From the downtown area it shouldn’t cost more than $5. Taxis are plentiful coming and going to the causeway, especially on weekends.
There are a couple of other noteworthy attractions at the causeway. The Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute runs the Centro de Exhibiciones Marinas (marine exhibit center) on Culebra. It includes a museum housed in a building Noriega once used for entertaining. The center contains exhibits on how Panama’s first peoples developed a variety of techniques to harvest fish from the sea. The exhibits also tell of how marine resources play a role in Panama’s economy and the destruction caused by net fishing. There are two large aquariums on site, one containing Pacific fish and the other, Caribbean sea creatures.
The Figali Convention Center is located on the causeway and can hold more than 10-thousand people. Concerts by some of the biggest international music stars are often held at the convention center. It’s also a great place to catch a boxing match. The Figali was the main venue for the 2003 Miss Universe pageant.
There is also a small beach on Naos Island, but since the causeway juts out in to the sewage-filled Bay of Panama, swim at your own risk.
Because the causeway is a tourist hangout, expect prices here to be higher than in other areas of Panama City.
