Kuna in Casco Viejo
Kuna Indian in Casco Viejo

After being in Costa Rica for a few weeks, I have come to be homesick for a few things about Panama…some of them predictable, some of them, unexpected.

1. Greenhouse Burger Wrap. The melty cheese, the randomly situated hot peppers, don’t even get me started.

2. Jap Jap. Sorry, I know I sound like a broken record, but it is the chicken of the gods.

3. Casco Viejo at night time. mmm.

4. The movies at the MultiPlaza mall….I don’t care if they are four months behind when they are four dollars.

5. The city skyline coming from the airport or Casco Viejo.

6. Generally feeling safe enough to walk around everywhere (unlike in San Jose).

7. Night baseball games. What is more fun?

8. Seeing colorful Kunas walking around the city.

9. Cafe Dolee for breakfast on Saturday morning.

10. Reggaeton!

What are the things you miss about Panama when you are gone?

  1. Here are the things I miss…
    1. Being able to talk my way (or five dollar my way) out of a speeding ticket.
    2. $1 beers on a white sand beach
    3. Privileges of being a Gringo
    4. Pre-cut pineapple slices in chinito stores
    5. “Randomly situated hot peppers”

  2. 1. the colombian girls
    2. the panamanian girls
    3. ensalada mixta at gaucho’s
    4. spaghetti bolonesa at manolo’s
    5. ron abuelo
    6. “randomly situated hot peppers”

  3. I’m glad we both agree about the hot peppers

  4. I miss the food corner food is the best in panama, oh and creps and waffles the best restaurant ever.

and the ability to just go to the dr or that one guy that nows a guy that could just sign u off a receta.

Ron abuelo – Seco (true fact of being a panameƱo drinking seco and liking it….)

THE PANAMENIAN PEOPLE…. i just love to see every time they close any major street just cause a team (even Brazil at the soccer cup) won the outpour of emotions and the feeling of something well done that needs a CELEBRATION!

  5. just 4 the record…. its not reggaeton what you hear in Panama, its Plena or Spanish Dancehall.

  6. plena is one thing and reggaeton is another. Are you panamanian, you should have been in the first reggaeton concerts by the beach in Panama. that was in 1990. Reggaeton by then was already popular with the kids.

You want plena, then go to Colon, they are great.
