Vote For Saladino For World Athlete Of The Year
Irving Saladino won a gold medal in the long jump event at the Beijing Olympics, and now he’s in the running for the 2008 World Athlete Of The Year. Saladino is considered a national hero in Panama, but does the rest of the world recognize his accomplishments enough for him to garner the title of World Athlete Of The Year?
Saladino won the gold medal in Beijing after jumping 8.34 meters at the Olympic event. Nicknamed “Kangaroo”, the Colon native brought home the first ever Panamanian gold medal and the first Olympic medal in 60 years. Rightfully so, Panamanians are extremely proud of their golden boy!
Saladino has been nominatedas a possible athlete of the year along with 9 other male athletes and 10 female athletes. The contest is being held by the International Association of Athletics Federation and the gala takes place in Monaco next month.
