“Urrego’s” Isla Chapera-Panama

Nelson Urrego, a convicted Colombian drug-trafficker is claiming that current Vice President Samuel Lewis Navarro wanted his piece of real estate heaven and haven, Isla Chapera. Nelson purchased Isla Chapera in 2002 for 1.5 million dollars after being released from a Colombian prision where he had been held on drug trafficking charges. The year 2003 was the end of Nelson’s ties with U.S after he had helped in a covert operation to indict the FARC on murder and drug charges. Perhaps this is what allowed Nelson to relocate to Panama, where he was given Panamanian citizenship and conducted business through numeous companies.

Nelson was very successful until he rented out the island to the popular CBS reality TV show “Survivor.” Nelson believes this brought attention to the island and placed him in his current situation. He is quoted by The New Herald saying that his island was unfortunately liked by politicians and business men of Panama, thus he is in prison.

Urrego has been in prison since September when he was arrested on the Island.
