Panama Loses Regional Tourist Attraction

Lola The Monkey – A Well Known Attraction In Los Santos
Most foreigners and Panamanians living in the Los Santos province are familiar with Lola, a friendly, wild monkey that lived in a clearing on the side of the road just outside of Las Tablas. Unfortunately, Lola’s owner discovered her dead this past weekend.
Lola’s original owner died years ago and was given to another family member who had been caring for her ever since. Lola lived in a group of trees on the side of the road between Las Tablas and Pedasi. Panamanians and expats who frequented that route would make sure to have some fruit with them to stop by and give to Lola.
On any given day you would see a number of cars pulled over to greet her. On Saturday I stopped by with some friends who were visiting from Panama City. Lola was nowhere to be found. Later in the week I found out from her owner that she had passed away on the weekend. Tragically the owner suspects that Lola, the friendliest monkey around, was poisoned. The owner found a bowl containing an unknown liquid sitting right beside Lola’s body.
If someone really did poison this local attraction, and innocent animal, it’s almost incomprehensible. Everyone I know that had stopped to greet Lola in the past is extremely saddened by this event. You can see a video of Lola in a previous post.

Thanks for the info, how sad, it was always fun to see her walking between the side of the road and the trees like a little ole lady.
