Panama is Golden!

Panama’s Golden Boy – Irving Saladino
It’s about time! Thankhs to Panama’s kangaroo from Colon, Panama has taken home its first Olympic gold medal ever, and it’s first medal in 60 years.
This morning, Irving Saladino jumped 8.34 meters in the long jump event. No wonder his nickname is kangaroo! Saladino qualified for the medal round and won the gold today beating out 12 other medal hopefuls.
South African Khotso Mokoena won the silver medal with a jump of 8.24 meters and Ibrahim Camejo of Cuba jumped 8.20 meters to get him the bronze.
You don’t have to be from Panama to feel proud for the country after a win like this. Considering the country of Panama has a population smaller than Toronto, it’s wonderful to see such great athletes coming out of Panama.
I am sure there will be many street parties taking place tonight in Panama. So whether you are in Panama celebrating with the locals, or in another country, raise your glass tonight for one of Panama’s greatest athletes and his incredible achievement.
