Our Week as Mall Rats at the Multiplaza

For the past couple of weekends Cailey and I rehashed our youth, spending hours walking the Multiplaza Mall in Punta Pacifica looking at things we couldn’t afford to buy. Apparently this Multiplaza is a big improvement over Costa Rica’s, with bigger walkways, high-end restaurants, and more shops and cafes.
I love going to the Multiplaza because one thing I can afford is movie tickets…especially when they are only $4.00! This encourages losers like us to go to the movies three times in one week. Buy a smoothie in the food court with ice cream or yogurt and sneak it in your purse, (really, you have to sneak it or they’ll catch you) or buy medium popcorn for fewer than two dollars! Deal!
Panamanians aren’t concerned with movie etiquette however: during “Sweeney Todd” the man next to me chatted on his cell phone and picked his nose, which made me feel even more nauseated than I already felt watching Johnny Depp slit throats. During “Atonement” it seemed that perhaps there was a language barrier because everyone felt the need to discuss the plot with their neighbor in speaking voices and also laugh during some of the most serious, intense parts of the movie.
Multiplaza has great stores for shopping (or window shopping) like some of my European favorites Zara and Mango which you can’t find in the states, and the newly extended wing has high-end couture like Cartier, Chanel and Carolina Herrera.
