Closest Thing to a Diner- Doleé
Living in El Cangrejo definitely has its benefits, one of which is the abundance of good restaurants. Harder to find, however, are breakfast joints. When I first moved here my favorite place to go on a weekend was NY Bagel. It’s always interesting to see the crowd of weird expats hanging out and mingling. Recently, I’ve been unsatisfied with my dining experiences there, so people watching is definitely where NY’s at.
However, I was pleasantly surprised this week when I discovered, around the corner on Via Argentina, a new A+ breakfast spot. “Doleé” is below Taco Loco, and virtually empty (all three times I visited it this past week). I am a creature of habit, so once i strike gold on a certain food, or place, I tend to be a repeat customer. This week all I ate were breakfast burritos. The Burrito is a delicious mixture of scrambled egg, a slice of bacon, chopped tomatoes and melty cheese kindly cuddled into a warm tortilla. This little wrap o’ heaven makes “Doleé” the next best thing to an American diner experience.
The atmosphere here is cozy, slightly kitch, but not overdone. It’s like you’ve walked into your Aunt Hilda’s house in Swansonberg, Ohio and she tells you to “take a load off,” and rushes over with a fresh cup of Joe.
Take it from me, a food lover, Doleé is it.
