Can You Eat a Tasty and Healthy Meal for 3 Dollars?
Anita’s Restaurant- El Carmen- Panama City, Panama
The answer is yes. Where? At Anita’s, the best hidden restaurant in Panama City. It’s tucked away near the intersection of Via Manuel Espinosa Batista and Calle Primera El Carmen (one block from Excedra books, heading away from Balboa). This restaurant boasts an authentic and rustic vibe unlike any other I’ve experienced in here. Ambiance alone sets Anitas apart, from wine bottles and Christmas lights dangling from the ceiling, to the floor and bar area covered in funky colored mix-matched pieces of tile, Anita’s has a cozy yet jazzy feeling.
I could imagine it converting into a great late night spot for music, or renting it out for a birthday party or family gathering. Aestheics aside, from what I’ve sampled so far here, Anitas food is also great and CHEAP! Today I ate a whole plato fuerte for a mere 3 bucks! The meal included grilled chicken, a small Greek salad, black beans and rice and sauteed plantains. It was delicious. I chose this plate from a selection of three meals of the day; the other options were a chorizo plate or fish plate. To top things off I had a delicious glass of chicha de piña. Next time, I think I’ll try a pizza, since it appeared that Anita’s is also known for their pies.
