18 Year Old Panamanian in NY Mets Farm System

Ruben Tejada, the latest Panamanian phenom
18 year old Ruben “El Rookie” Tejada is doing well in the Major League Baseball farm system. The young infielder from Veraguas has been called up to play in the New York Mets farm league. He reports that he is doing well and has been happy to receive tutelage from former All-Star catcher Sandy Alomar Jr.
Tejada earns high praise from Mets officials for his “advanced approach” (walked more than he struck out) and his baseball intelligence. He has a line-drive bat and he shows excellent fundamentals defensively.
While somewhat undersized at 5-11 and 165 pounds, Tejada posted a laudable .400 on base percentage in the Gulf Coast League and has plenty of time to improve his size and strength.
