Playa Hermosa Area Information
Only a stone’s throw from Jaco, Playa Hermosa is a great retreat from the touristy center, but close enough that you won’t miss out on all the action. This 6-mile black sand beach is popular among surfers for its laidback atmosphere, great surf breaks and cheap lodging options. The development is limited to one side of the main street that parallels the beach. Hostels, cabins, eclectic restaurants, small homes and a soccer field line the road in a haphazard manner. The beach is not for swimming as strong waves crash into the shore leaving a permanent mist over the horizon. Enjoy tranquil days listening to surfers report on the waves and the rip currents while you save up your energy for an evening on the town. A $4 taxi ride will take you to the center of Jaco for shopping, food and an endless array of bars. Be careful not to wake the surfers upon your return who are busy dreaming about their early morning session with the waves.
