Liberia Hotels
Until Liberia moves beyond its reputation as a ‘pit stop’, no luxury hotels seem to be in the works, while the real estate in the area is getting progressively more expensive and luxurious.
On the main road from San Jose you will find the Hotel Boyeros, which is better known in town for its 24-hour restaurant with quality food and beverages. The hotel offers poolside restaurant and bar service just for guests, which is more than convenient, and means that you do not have to go far to grab a Pina-Colada or a delicious sandwich. The menu includes a large variety of international and local food. Try the giant chicken soup with cilantro that will have you feeling full and healthy.
The hotel is perfect as a stop over for a couple of days in Liberia. It is easy to reach from the airport and is conveniently located close to all amenities. Despite being the oldest hotel of its kind in Liberia, the 70 spacious rooms are all perfectly equipped with air conditioning, comfortable beds, cable TV, WiFi, telephone and great bathrooms with hot water. It has balconies and terraces from which you can admire the hotel gardens and pool. It has also other advantages such as secure parking, laundry service, wake up call service, a money exchange, safety deposit box, playground and an internet café complete with fax service, opened from 6am to 10pm. The hotel also has a conference room with a capacity of 300 people.
The hotel’s large swimming pool includes a water slide and is surrounded by palms and tropical flowers. There is also a smaller one for the kids. The rates are as follow: Single occupancy, $55.00 up to $82 for a quadruple. All rates include taxes and up to two children under 10 are free.
The Best Western El Sitio is on the outskirts of Liberia, just beyond the Plaza Santa Rosa and 10 minutes away from the international airport. It is a perfect base for visiting the whole area; the beautiful beaches of Guanacaste, the Rincón de la Vieja national park, and more.
When first entering the hotel, you will notice how popular it is with the locals too who like to use it as a weekend getaway, or for its conference facilities. The hotel has 52 rooms available, all very spacious and airy with air conditioning, cable TV, safety deposit boxes, and beautiful private bathrooms with hot water. These rooms have the choice of either 1 Double and 1 Single bed, 1 Double and two Single beds, 1 King and a Single bed or 1 King and two Double size beds. The restaurant of the hotel, the Rancho Italiano, with seating of up to 60, will serve you international, Italian and Costa Rican dishes, together with all types of alcohol. Breakfast is included in the rates.
Rates vary between $23.00 per person to $70.00, children up to five are free and children from 6 to 12 years pay children rate of $12.50, with a maximum of 2 children per room. The 16% taxes are not included in these rates.
The Posada del Tope is among a small group of hostel/hotels on the Paseo Real street, which jets off from the main central park. The street itself is home to some of the more wealthy families in the area, and the properties have a typical Guanacaste style with a large patio in the center of the house. This hotel is named after the “Topes” or horse parades that go down the street. The private rooms are basic with cable TV, fans and mosquito netting with clean shared bathrooms. The hostel side is a bit more sparse with bunk beds going for $10 a night.

There are two swimming pools, one for the adults and the other for the kids, which are surrounded by tropical trees and plants. While the pool can be a little murky looking, it is hard to resist in the beautiful setting, just don’t say we didn’t warn you. There is a restaurant called Las Palmas, serving local and international food, and a snack and cocktail bar serving by the pool. The hotel also includes two fully equipped conference rooms, Internet service, and 24-hour security.
All the rooms of the hotel are fully equipped, spacious and comfortable and include a wide variety of amenities such as cable TV, air-conditioning, ceiling fans, a writing desk, coffee maker and wardrobe. Fresh flowers can be found in the room when you first arrive and are replaced regularly. There is a choice of 23 Standard Rooms, 8 rooms with a view over the pool, and 7 fully furnished Premium Villas. Rates vary according to the season, from $55 to $65 for a single to $67 to $77 for a triple room and the Villas have a rate of $100 to $110 per day for 5 persons, and $600 for 5 persons per month.
