La Fortuna Town Information

There are many volcanoes in Costa Rica, but Arenal is the only one that can give you the full show; lava, explosions and fireworks all included!

By far the best place to stay to visit Arenal is La Fortuna. From this little town, the volcano can be seen majestically overlooking the valley, a constant, powerful presence. La Fortuna provides great options for places to stay and eat, and there is a lot more to do there than just look at the volcano.

The town is centered around a central park where you can sit and watch the visitors and locals go by. There are a variety of shops and small supermarkets set up around the perimeter, and the restaurants are all quite good. Having tried most of them, I would have to say the Volcano Lodge Restaurant is my favorite and a truly beautiful place.

La Fortuna also has a good selection of bars if you want some night life, and it is always a good idea to stay up late as the volcano’s eruptions can only be seen at night.
