Jaco Area Information
Jacó is the Daytona Beach of Costa Rica. Established in the 1970’s as Costa Rica’s first real surfing town, Jacó is today’s biggest party town. Being the closest beach to San Jose, you see mostly young Ticos, surfers, and other vacationing party people. Jacó has a reputation as the “place to get the night started” (or prematurely ended, whichever your case may be).
Its restaurants with live music, bars with deadly mojitos, and consistent surfer-endorsed waves are all testaments to its ‘never say die’ attitude. Unfortunately, the beaches are somewhat flawed; don’t expect the typical tropical beach setting and be on the lookout for an occasional disoriented crocodile. On the other hand, if you’re a surfer, don’t let this deter you — always be on the lookout for the next big wave. Whether you’re searching for waves or just a good time, you’ll find plenty of fun in Jacó.
