Wildlife and Nature in Costa Rica
I’m an avid nature lover and birder, an amateur Naturalist I guess. It was the wonderful flora and fauna that first drew me to Costa Rica ten years ago and a big part of what kept me coming back until I finally moved here 3 years ago. This small country is so diverse and so unique that the array of creatures and plants is mind boggling. Since being here, I have seen over 550 new species of birds, I’ve sat quietly under a tree while a mother Coati and 10 babies scampered all around me eating fruit from a tree, I’ve been up close to all four species of monkeys and had the incredible experience of gazing into their oh so human eyes, I’ve even tracked Tapirs through the jungles of Braulio Carrillo National Park feeling ever so close but never finding the amazing animal leaving its prints all over the soft jungle floor. I guess I’ve been humbled many times in the presence of so many unique animals. I’ve seen the green sea turtles nesting and their babies hatching many times and it still just blows me away, their instincts over hundreds and hundreds of years still sharp, still consistent, just the same as their mothers, grandmothers, and many many generations before.
I know there are lots of people out there who really enjoy nature like I do.
I would really like to hear about others experience with Nature in Costa Rica. Has anyone seen a jaguar? I’d love to hear your stories.
