So much to see…
One thing I find amazing about Costa Rica is the amount of places to visit and things to do for such a small country, and how different they all are. In my few months here, I have gotten to see a good chunk of all the country and several of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. I have found it really incredible how the people, weather, landscape and vibe totally changes from one town/city/beach/province to the next.
For example, Costa Rica has two coasts- the Pacific and the Carribean, and these two coasts feel like two seperate countries. The Pacific side is known to be more touristy, have nicer weather and is more developed. A good example is Tamarindo- this is a town popular for surfers from all over, very expensive and filled with tourists. While on the other side of the country, the Carribean has a large black population, plenty of reggae, and a more laid back, authentic vibe to it.
In addition to the general difference between the two coasts, every town has its own unique attractions, landscapes and people. For example, Monteverde is home to Costa Rica’s cloud forest, filled with unbelievable natural wonders and many younger tourists volunteering in the National Park or studying English. Jaco is known as the party town, is often visited by locals becuase it is the closest beach to San Jose and is notorious for older American men enjoying the ladies of the night. The list goes on and on and on but the best way to get to know is by hopping in a car or bus and exploring for yourself!
