Sloths and Flats

Life is never really what you expect.  Nothing ever really goes perfectly, but somehow we always manage to have a great time. While visiting Manuel Antonio, surprises turned up after every turn.  No matter if it was an inconvenience or amazement, it made the weekend that much better.

The first twist to the weekend was while we were having dinner at one of the local restaurants on the beach.   As we were sitting there people kept creeping to the edge and taking pictures.  The thatch roof was a tan color and every time I saw a flash, I couldn’t figure it out. Then it moved.  There was a sloth hanging on the power lines drinking the water from the roof cover.  It was hard to see because it was the same exact color as the roof.  The sloth was literally 2 feet away from the restaurant railing.  It was really exciting to see a sloth that close, especially because the only ones I have ever seen were at the local zoo where I grew up.

The second surprise came on our way back to San Jose.  We thought we were being really smart by leaving town a bit early as to avoid the long weekend traffic.  Well as luck would have it, we got a flat tire and because the car was so old and the owner not a self proclaimed mechanic, the tools were useless.  Luckily about 30 minutes into our adventure a similar car pulled up and had all the right tools.  It took a little over an hour to get everything back together and back on the road.  The funniest part about it was that between the three guys, there was not a lot of mechanical experience.  In addition the sun was beaming down on the open road making us drip with sweat.   The guy pulled over to help us for karma and boy were we thankful.

Life is full of unexpected experiences and this weekend proved you must be ready for anything to come your way.
