Costa Rica is Slippery When Wet

For the past day and a half it has barely rained here in San Jose.  This is a stark contrast to the beginning of the week when it was a torrential down pour causing floods and mudslides in the city.

Yesterday was the first day in about a week where it only sprinkled.  It wasn’t even raining hard enough for an umbrella.  Since arriving here in July it has been what I would consider moderate conditions.  I had never been to Costa Rica before but I was given some information about the weather before coming down here.   I was told that July and August were rainy in the afternoons and September and October were just awful.  Well considering it is only September 7th, things could change but being from Seattle, a city known for its rain, it hasn’t been too bad in San Jose (knock on wood).  Don’t get me wrong when it rains in the afternoon it can rain pretty hard but it doesn’t last forever which is the best part about it.  In Seattle it drizzles all day some days and you just wish that it would pour and be done with it.

In addition to the rains arriving, I have also noticed that it is time to put the flip flops away and bring out the more slip proof shoes.  I am somewhat klutzy and the fact that the sidewalks are covered in slippery moss and there are tiles on some walking surfaces does not help my cause.  When counting how many times I have fallen I now have to use two hands.
