Sailing Costa Rica
Sailing has been one of my families past times for as long as I can remember. It is a special time that we can share, come together, and experience another way of life. Costa Rica is the perfect place to have a sailing adventure. Whether you travel along the Pacific or the Caribbean coast lines, one is sure to never get bored.Â
The National Parks offer plenty of hikes, dingy adventures up rivers, and beautiful wildlife to see. The beauty of sailing is that one can experience the marine beauty and the magnificence of the main land. One of the favorite anchorages in Costa Rica is Manuel Antonio. This part of the country provides sailors with the chance to stretch their legs and take a hike. While on the hike you are guaranteed to see plenty of wildlife.
Another favorite is the Cocos Island, as Schooling hammerheads, countless white-tip sharks, mantas, tuna and even whale sharks call Cocos home. Maybe not the place you want to be lounging on a floatie, but a great spot to see the marine life up close and personal. This is known as one of the world’s best spots to dive, but is recommended for experienced divers because of the large shark population. Do not fear if you a beginner, because as a snorkeler there are plenty of colorful eels and reef fish to see. You can also travel to the island and experience what it has to offer. There are no native mammals to the island but there are plenty of birds, lizards, and butterflies.Â
Whether you own your own boat or not there are plenty of marinas in Costa Rica to rent a boat or moor for the evening. No doubt that Costa Rica has plenty to offer a sailor, but don’t take my word for it, come down here and see for yourself!
