Look at the Growth…
Good news! Since last year the number of inbound international flights has risen from 1,380 to 1,888. That’s an increase of over 500 in just one year. Wow. I guess one could assume that Costa Rica is getting to be a bit more popular. Of course it is getting more popular, look what the country has to offer…rain forests, hundreds of thousands of species, beaches, volcanoes, and tons of biodiversity.
In 2003 1.24 million people visited Costa Rica and in 2006 1.72 million people enjoyed this beautiful country. This growth is not unusual; in fact it is expected and was prepared for. Several new resorts have popped up within that time along with many new travel agencies.
Typically, the tourists would arrive at Juan Santamaria International Airport, but because these numbers are growing so fast and at an exponential rate, the Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia has stepped up to the plate. This airport in Guanacaste, has taken on many of the inbound flights due to the fact that it is closer to the popular beach destinations, like Tamarindo and the Santa Rose National Park. So if you are looking to come to Costa Rica and head straight for the beach skip San Jose and go straight to Liberia. It makes for shorter shuttle rides and all in all an easier process making your vacation more enjoyable.
