Crisis Preserves Costa Rica Resort’s Authentic Character

The Resort Features Outdoor Living in a Picturesque Beach Setting.
Latitude 10 Resort is well known in Mal Pais and Santa Teresa as a favorite haunt among celebrities, having hosted Mel Gibson on several occassions, Winston Churchill’s family and many other celebrity’s in the film and sports arena. The hotel’s open air, relaxed concept blends into the natural surroundings with minimal or no impact on the environment. The property features five free standing cabins, a guest house, restaurant and open air lounge, all hidden amid tropical foliage that was originally a private, family-owned retreat.
In 2006, Latitude 10 began to function as a boutique luxury resort and then in 2008 was purchased by the owner of Flor Blanca (a luxury hotel just 200m down the beach) as he looked to expand and dominate the celebrity market increasingly interested in the Mal Pais and Santa Teresa area. Latitude 10 was renamed the Flor Blanca Reserve and became part of the hotel and was used for exclusive parties or groups.
Due to the economic climate, Flor Blanca was forced to give up plans for expansion and returned the property to its original owners. After the quick turn over, the resort underwent a recent ’spring cleaning’ and is now open and ready for business under the Latitude 10 brand.
Richard Bexon of Costa Rican Vacations recently visited the property for the fifth time and stated that it was the same as before: “chilled, relaxed and 5 star”.
The property is indeed a local gem, paying hommage to the beautiful region with fold-away walls, outdoor bathrooms and beautiful views and direct access to a tropical white sand beach. It surpasses the standard 5 star ranking as not even the Four Seasons can recreate this picturesque environment.
Latitude 10 offers a 100% authentic encounter with Costa Rican nature, unobstructed by creature comforts such as AC, TV, Butler, etc. The property is literally right on the beach and the ocean breezes keep it cool and keep the bugs at bay, allowing you to open up the walls to your cabin and lounge in your bed surrounded by the sounds and sights of the ocean and Costa Rican jungle. Now, under its original ownership, the hotel remains as flexible and exclusive as ever, with no plans to change in the near future.
