Getting a bit more familiar with Costa Rica
This week marks my third anniversary with Costa Rica. The past weeks have flown by and looking at the calendar makes me think it will go even quicker. I think I have finally assimilated enough to know where I am and where things are located. Well kind of.
Today, was my first experience where I thought of myself as someone living here as opposed to a tourist. I had gone to the airport to pick up a package and the taxi driver I had befriended the other day was my driver again today. His name is Martin and he loves practicing his English. Its pretty entertaining because the literal translation for a lot of Spanish words and phrases do not come out the same in English. But I am sure it is just as entertaining for him to hear me try to speak Spanish. The cool thing was that he remembered my name.
Another instance of familiarity came when I was taking a different taxi. Before arriving I was worried about communicating with the taxi drivers as the addresses here are non existent but I have somewhat grown accustomed to the practices of the taxis. I even prevented one from ripping me off. It patted myself on the back for that one as it was all in Spanish and I could finally see that my language skills were improving.
