Following the Lonely Planet Travel Guide
If you are traveling to Costa Rica and are in need of a travel guide I highly suggest the Lonely Planet book. It is one of the most used guide books and is pretty accurate.
I have scoured the internet for travel tips and advice and have found that some are just not that reliable. Everyone has a different idea of quality and because of expectations their travels can be swayed very easily, so it makes these reviews a good source of information but not always true. Lonely Planet is surprising very accurate. The descriptions of the hostels are almost dead on. I recently traveled to Tamarindo and all of the backpackers at the hostel were completely dependent on the book so I was curious to see what the book had to say about the accommodations when I returned home. The hostel was in decent condition with dorms, rooms, and singles, breakfast was included, and one bathroom for the whole hostel. It was provided the essentials and free internet. Although not very lavish it was adequate and served its purpose just fine.
When I returned home I read the review for the hostel and it was dead on with the description and price. I read on and found reviews for the other hostels and found some with more appealing accommodations. So the lesson learned from this experience is perhaps trust the internet less and the book more. Next time I will refer to the book and then make my travel arrangements.
