Costa Rica’s Rainy Season – Not that bad!

Costa Rica has two seasons: the dry season (Dec. – May) and the rainy season (June – Nov.). Most people assume that the dry season is the best time to come…THEY ARE DEAD WRONG!!! In fact, I actually like the rainy season better than the dry season for the following reasons:1- The country is lush and green and actually looks like you would expect a tropical country to look like. The Costa Ricans actually call it “la epoca verde” or the green season.

2- Because everything is so green, there is more fruit on the trees, which ultimately means the animals, which Costa Rica is so famous for, are more active and abundant. You are much more likely to have a “close encounter” with a monkey, sloth, toucan, macaw, etc. during the green season.

3- The rain is very predictable. What you can expect is hot, bright and sunny mornings up until mid to late afternoon. Around that time you might get a shower (sometimes the showers dump buckets of rain for 15 min. and stop as suddenly as they started and sometimes the rain will last for a couple hours).

4- It can get hot on the coast and the rain cools everything off and re-energizes the day.

5- Prices are lower and it is easier to get availability at some of the great hotels!

6- Fewer tourists. Only during the green season can you discover those deserted beaches.
