The Best Things in Costa Rica are Free
Part of living the small budget lifestyle is enjoying everything for exactly what it is worth. When you spend a lot of money on a tour or a big event you somewhat force yourself to have a good time. It may not be what you expect but you look at it with a glass half full attitude. But the best thing about living on a budget is seeing the beauty in things that don’t cost money; people watching in the park, on a busy street, or enjoying the view from a rooftop apartment.  Â
The skies burn in Costa Rica.
So there is not much to do these days that does not cost any money at all. There will always be the little things to pay for like an ice cold beer or an inexpensive bus fair to the beach. All in all it may not be free but it is pretty inexpensive. It is easy to find accommodations for less than $10 anywhere in the country. They may not be the nicest places you have ever stayed but some things must be compromised to save a penny.Â
One of the best things is to find a ¨virgin¨ beach with a small village and explore. There are plenty of these places in Costa Rica as many of the tourists flock to the highly publicized areas. Once at these quaint beaches, crack open an ice cold Imperial and sit back and watch the sea and soak up the sun. If you stick around long enough you will enjoy one of the best sunsets burning the sky. The weather is one of the best aspects of the country.Â
The best adventure I had was to a local’s finca near the Monteverde cloud forest. It was my friends host family’s getaway high up in the mountains. While we were there we experienced a Costa Rican barn dance, rode horses, enjoyed a home cooked meals by the friendly neighbors, and basked in the beauty of the area. We also were given a tour of a local farm, fed some animals, and learned about how to grow coffee. The people were extremely welcoming and always eager to show us around. It was a fantastic weekend that was completely out of the blue but the best taste of Costa Rica.Â
