New Costa Rica Hotels Join Ranks of ‘World’s Best’

The Tranquil El Silencio Hotel Was One of the Top Choices for New Hotels in 2008.

These are happy and proud moments for Costa Rica as two of its hotels have been selected to appear in three of the most prestigious international magazines dedicated to tourism. Condé Nast Traveler, Andrew Harper and Travel + Leisure choose the hotels El Silencio, located in the Alajuela Province, Valverde Vega, and Arenas del Mar in Manuel Antonio on the Central Pacific Coast, for their stylish luxury, divine cuisine and stunning natural settings.

The hotels were included in lists of new hotels that every traveler should visit in 2008 in each of these publications. Hotels from the United States, Europe, the Caribbean, Latin America, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Australia and the Pacific were all taken into consideration. In Conde Nast’s list, only nine hotels were selected in Latin America, of which one in Brazil, two in Chile, four in Argentina and of course, these two hotels here in Costa Rica.

This is the second consecutive year that Costa Rica hotels were selected; last year the Xandari in Playa Esterillos and the Gaia Hotel and Reserve in Manuel Antonio were the chosen ones. To make such a lofty decision, reporters were sent incognito to hotels all over the world so that they could make a fair evaluation of the standards and quality that the hotels offer, of their tours, their services and their cuisine. So far Conde Nast has nominated 130 hotels since 2005.

The magazine was also impressed with the sustainable luxury of El Silencio, and its avant-garde attitude towards eco-tourism. Its setting in the middle of the exuberance of the cloud forest has it as a winner for peace and quality. It has been listed in the Top 30 of the best hotels in the world by Travel + Leisure, which describes it as one of the best country hotels, offering a perfect balance between the natural and the luxury.

Arenas del Mar was chosen by Conde Nast more particularly for its dashing cuisine, its gorgeous setting in total harmony with its beautiful surrounding, stunning views over the pacific ocean and its comfort. Andrew Harper chose it for the very same reasons, adding that the proximity of the National Park of Manuel Antonio add to its perfection as a hotel offering everything a tourist may dream of; a comfortable stay in luxury, fantastic views, beautiful pristine beaches and a national park all within walking distance.

Within the last decade, Costa Rica has really showed the world that it can offer access to amazing, diverse natural settings to tourists, while preserving its flora and fauna and caring for its environment. A pioneer in eco-tourism, Costa Rica has also improved the quality of its customer service, providing the tourists with trained staff and outstanding cuisine in an unequaled setting. It has surpassed itself in providing luxury in total harmony with nature and the Costa Rica tourism industry as a whole is always looking for ways to improve the quality of clients’ stay. More activities such as tours that can teach the world about the fragile beauty of its ecosystem and how it can be enjoyed without leaving a mark are constantly being introduced as the country aims to attract educated and eco-conscious tourists. Well-done Costa Rica.
