How to Avoid Losing Your Bags While Traveling
Everyone has experienced a lost bag at some point their travel experience and we all know what a huge pain it can be. Going days without a change of clothes, your own toiletries, and other important vacation items in a foreign counrty is not a pleasant experience. Here are some quality tips from an experienced baggage handler.
Check in at least 30 minutes prior to your flight because if you cut it any closer your bags will most likely miss the plane. If you are lucky, the desk attendant has the ability to call the grounds crew to go slower or swing back for a late pick up, but you may have beg for this service.
Other reasons your bags get lost are due to extra tags left on the bag from previous trips. This is an issue because the three letter code on the label is how the handlers know where to send the bag and it is not their job nor do they have time to look for the tag for that particular day. Miscommunication, full storage compartments, and delayed planes are also reasons your bags do not make the plane.
