Absentee Voting for U.S. Citizens

U.S. Citizens… remember to register for your absentee voting for the not too far in the future primary and presidential elections. Even though it is easy to come to Costa Rica and forget that the rest of the world still exists, it is important for all of us to stay on top of the political races and exercise our right and privilege to vote. Registration deadlines vary from state to state, but most are January so please take time to register, we all make a difference.

The process of registering for absentee voting is very simple thanks to the Internet.  Just go to www.fvap.gov, find the FPCA form (Federal Post Card Application), print it, fill it out and mail it. Within 30 days you will receive application and ballot materials in the mail.  Fill out the application and take it to the U.S. Embassy American Citizen Service Office any weekday between 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. and the embassy will mail it for you free of charge.  Some states even allow the application to be emailed or faxed back. Check the site to see what your state will allow.  Remember to take your passport with you if you do visit the embassy in person.

Take in one of the hundreds of debates that seem to be going on, check out some of the great political websites out there, and cast your votes for the candidate you think will do the best job for all of us. We may be living away from our “home” but most of us have families and loved ones in the U.S. so our vote still matters. Get out and Vote!
