Why Brits will never move to Costa Rica!!

So, I love Costa Rica to bits, it has great weather, cheap living, a relaxed atmosphere and great natural surroundings. There are not too many countries in the world where you have great weather most of the year around and also have the scenery and wildlife. However with all this said and done I feel that Costa Rica really needs to adjust its water texture and milk quality in-line with the UK market. Now you may think I am crazy but Tea to us Brits is like Indian Food to Indians and Burgers to the USA. It is amazing even after having lived here for over 2 years now I can still not get it right.

In my first 2 weeks in Costa Rica after marrying my Costa Rican wife (who hates tea by the way), I tried to make Tea by boiling water and using long life milk. BIG MISTAKE!! Tasted like Earl Grey or dirty dish water as I like to call it. Then I had the bright idea to buy fresh milk as I thought this could be the problem, again did not taste right. What is that makes it so hard to make a cup of Tea that tastes like your Nans cup of Tea? It is like trying to solve a complicated math equation that is going to take a decade to solve. So my next step to making the “British Cup of Costa Rican Tea using British Tea Bags’ was to buy a kettle. On the upside it would save me boiling it on the stove, using a microwave or a hot water dispenser, however the downside was that Cemaco wanted $80 for the thing. The things we sacrifice for the perfection of tea!! So in anticipation of the perfect cup of tea I heated the water using the kettle, used a PG Tea Bag (the best British Tea bag) and semi skimmed fresh milk. Guess what?? It did not work!!!

To cut a long story short I still have not perfected it, but what am I doing drinking Tea in one of the coffee making nations of the world!! Now I drink Coffee and feel very much Americanised but it still hits the spot and I wake up in the morning when I get to work. I hope this has confused you and made you realise that the search for the ‘Los Altos de Tea’ continues. Us Brits and our TEA!!
