Local Flavor
An exciting part of my travels is experiencing the countries cuisine. After hearing glowing reports of the tasteful delights of Costa Rica, I was excited to experience it first hand. On my first night in Costa Rica, I was taken to a co-workers favorite restaurant. I thought to myself that on my first night we would be shown the local food, but to my surprise we went to a Japanese/Korean restaurant. Although it wasn’t Costa Rican food, it still was very tasty.
My first experience with the local food came the next day at lunch. I wanted to try something I had heard about so I opted for a Casado, one of the most common dishes. It consists of white rice, black beans served with a meat, a small salad, and fried plantains. I am not sure if there is a correct/incorrect way of eating it but I kind of took a bit of this, a bit of that on a fork and ate it. It was all very good. The meal was very inexpensive and huge. The small restaurant was quaint, friendly, and delicious.
After this delicious lunch I am now very eager to try all of the local flavor the country has to offer.
