Hot Water…Finally
So coming to a Central American country, I was unsure of what to expect in terms of showers. I knew that Costa Rica is pretty developed, but I was pretty uninformed on some aspects of live down here. Call me niave, but my decision to come down here didn’t require a lot of thought; I just looked at it as a great opportunity that was unique compared to anything else I was looking into doing.Â
Well, my first shower experience in Costa Rica lasted me three weeks. And no I do not mean that I didn’t shower for three weeks. I simply mean that I did not figure out the whole hot water situation for three weeks. I say this now knowing what I was doing wrong and just shake my head at myself as it is an easy fix to have a hot shower. I just had a slower learning curve for this particular daily activity. I had asked people what the secret was to get the water hot and they would reply with something a bit vague and I would just say ok as if I understood what they were saying.Â
After three weeks of cold showers I finally figured it out! Thank goodness, although I had gotten used to taking cold showers. It just wasn’t really that bad, but once I experienced a warmer shower I forgot what I was missing.  The trick is to just barely turn the faucet on until you start hearing a hissing noise, this means that the heater has been turned on. Then you can turn it down to get it hotter or turn it up to get it cooler.
