El Dia de la Madre
Today, August 15th is El Dia de la Madre, or Mother´s Day for those who only speak English. In a country mainly ruin by men, the traditional family matriarch is still practiced by many. This means that children will not overlook this day as they may not see the next. Stores have eagerly gotten the appropriate presents ready and florists have made special bouquets for the occasion. In addition, tonight restaurants will be packed with families celebrating.
For a very long time, Mother´s Day has been on August 15th but politicians have moved the public holiday to the following Monday to allow a three day weekend. This causes some controversy with the traditionalists and some lawmakers, but for the most part people appreciate their mothers for having a national holiday and a three day weekend…best of both worlds.
