Federico Pilurzu was the only surfer representing Central American invited to compete in the Maresia International Surf Tournament in Brazil, which ended yesterday. Pilurzu make it to one of the final rounds of 24 competitors, and came in 17th out of 144 in the event.
According to the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) website, this result, as well as his performance in the O’Neill Cold Water Classic, helped Pilurzu to advance 10 positions from 105th place in the WQS.
“The truth is that I am satisfied with the results that I have obtained up until now, even though I can still continue advancing to enter in the ASP Triple Crown that begins in November. The effort is great, especially if we take into account the advanced level of surfing that is practiced in the WQS, but I think it has been worth it because I am meeting my goal of being amongst the best 100 in the world,” Pilurzu said in an e-mail.
Pilurzu’s next challenge will take place in Ubatuba, Sao Paulo, Brazil on Oct. 28th. Here, 144 surfers will participate in a 6-star event to win a prize of $125,000.
