Buenas Dias Mundo!  For anyone headed to the Tamarindo area for a surf trip, here is a spot that you need to check out, if not you’ll be missin out. 

If you’re keepin it real in a hostel or livin large villa style in the Tamarindo area a quick drive will get you to one of my personal favorite spots in Costa Rica.  It’s called Avellanas and is located just before Playa Negro, just follow the signs.  One of the reasons I rate this beach so highly is the vibe it emits, about 20 cars are parked in a small grass lot only ten steps from the beach, to your right is a small bar that blends into the palm trees, there are scattered stone tables and benches to sit and have a drink. 

The beach here is long, a little bit rocky, very clean, and NOT covered in driftwood.  The waves here are bigger than Tamarindo, cleaner, less crowded, and the water much much cleaner.  This is the perfect getaway from everything that is undesirable of Tamarindo, but with the great surf you come to this country for.  This is not a swimmer’s beach, everyone here is a surfer, or someone who’s just along for the ride. 

After getting a good days worth in, head back to your crib and hit the bars or discoteques, enjoy the Tamarindo party scene.  If you happen to be here New Years Eve, Avellanas has one of the best parties in the Country.
