Costa Rica Soccer Team Still in top 150 Worldwide

The International Soccer History and Statistics Federation released its updated world club ratings yesterday and Puntarenas still stands as the best Costa Rica soccer team.  Even though it fell from 106th to 139th it still remains in the top 150 worldwide.

Other Costa Rica soccer teams didn’t fair too bad.  The Liga Deportiva Alajuelense Alajuela came in at 214th rising from 248th and Saprissa San Juan de Tibas San Jose rose from 234th to 220th.

Puntarenas’s dramatic 33 place fall comes from the loss to Saprissa in the quarterfinals of the Central American Football Union (UNCAF) inter-club tournament.

The UNCAF features 16 club teams of the champions and runner-ups in local leagues. Other teams in UNCAF that were also ranked are Honduras’s Motagua (166th), and Guatemala’s Municipal (211th).

The UNCAF top three from the upcoming UNCAF tournament will then proceed to the 2008 Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football Cup (CONCACAF).  The semifinals feature Saprissa against Alajuelense and Motagua facing Municipal.
