Pat on the Back for Capitan Suizo

Last weekend I went to Tamarindo with my husband. I have been to Tamarindo 5 times and mostly stayed in a very central location. We decided this weekend to explore a little more and were driving around looking for a nice place to eat that was not the typical Copacabana, Nibbana, or any other restaurant on the ’strip’. Those are great restaurants, I love the views, right on the beach, wonderful food and also they seem to focus on presentation, but they are also some of the only choices around. We were driving down the dark bad conditioned roads looking for something, anything, and stumbled across Capitan Suizo.

I had always pictured Capitan Suizo as a very quaint, colorful, family hotel. I walked in and was shocked by the luxury feel of the hotel This was definitely my style! The gardens surrounding the rooms and pool are very lush and well kept. They have paths leading through the gardens to the restaurant which gives kind of a ‘tropical’ ambiance. The restaurant is very sheek, with nice lighting, open to the outdoors with a thatched roof.

The food was delicious. I ate the fish ‘capitan suizo’ style and with vegetables. They recommend the rice, but I’m more of a potato person, and no worries, they were very kind about the substitution. The tables are spacious and the restaurant does not feel too crowded. And you can tell when you walk in that they really do focus on service. It was a wonderful dinner and I recommend the catch of the day, my husband and I were happy about our selections.

The one thing that I give this restaurant the most credit for, is that after eating and walking out of the restaurant, the Food and Beverages Manager made a point to catch up to us and make sure we had a good experience. He was very friendly and eager to give us information about the highlights of Capitan Suizo. My husband is Costa Rican, and once William (the food and beverage manager) realized that I am not a Spanish Speaker, switched over to English even after I told him Spanish was not a problem. He was excited that we enjoyed our experience and his enthusiasm stuck with us for the remainder of the night. Thank you William for an enjoyable experience and I am looking forward to the day where I can stay at Capitan Suizo. Until then, everyone should at least go the extra distance and try out the sheek open aired restaurant nestled between beautiful gardens the hotel pool and with sounds of the ocean in the background!
