Bahía del Sol Beachfront Hotel in Potrero Bay, Guanacaste recently recruited a new professional chef, interior decorator and new spa manager to improve their current offerings to shape the hotel into the perfect destination for a tropical wedding.

“Our beach front location has always been our biggest strength,” Hotel Marketing Manager Daniel Chavarría said. The enhanced attention to details of service and accommodations coupled with the hotel’s superb location has already attracted a noticeable increase in demand for weddings.

The 28-room boutique hotel keeps a busy High Season schedule, hosting about two or three weddings per month. Chavarría expects that the new Spa facility, professional chef and renovated room interiors, as well as continued word-of-mouth will attract more brides and grooms to the intimate location.

New head chef Luis André came to the hotel after seven years at the Cala Moresca restaurant in the Tamarindo Cala Luna Hotel. André produced an entirely new innovative menu for Bahia del Sol featuring tropical fusion with a special emphasis on fresh local sea food. He also created six special occasion menus, which include specialties such as coconut chocolate cake, tropical pineapple salad with shrimp, and fish fillet in tamarind sauce with saffron and ginger; perfectly balanced for a memorable reception dinner.

Famous Costa Rican interior designer Marcela Soto will be improving the overall atmosphere of the hotel by renovating all 28 units, with a focus on luxurious comfort with a new twist on current trends. Each room will be custom designed to improve guests’ overall experience.

To focus on physical comfort, the romantic wedding packages will be upgraded to include services from the Solaris Spa, which will now be managed by the renowned Mio Derma Spa company. To accentuate the change, they are also building a beach front rancho, and adding new treatments and professional masseuses.

Even before the renovations, the hotel was a favorite among brides and grooms because of the intimacy of the location and service. Potrero Bay has maintained a private, authentic feel due to the low level of beach front development. The entire property offers stunning views of the ocean and the nearby Catalina Islands.

Guests are drawn in by the romantic atmosphere at Bahia del Sol, which has also become a favorite among honeymooners and couples celebrating their anniversary.

Professional wedding designer and Tropical Occasions owner Aimee Monihan just recently teamed with the hotel and has already organized five weddings there. She said that the hotel property is absolutely spectacular and the grassy lawn that runs right up to the beach is very hard to come by in Costa Rica.

“The hotel provides an extremely unique, intimate location overlooking a secluded cove,” she said.

She also noted that the versatility of the gardens and beach front property makes it an ideal location that was built with special events in mind. From the thatched roof Rancho, which can serve as a dance floor, bar or dining area, to the torch-lit green lawn set in front of one of the most beautiful sunsets in Costa Rica, any arrangement promises to make for an unforgettable tropical wedding that will leave the bride and groom enchanted.

The quality of service provided at the hotel is also difficult to beat. “The staff is very enthusiastic and they really take it up a notch on event day,” Monihan said. The entire hotel can be dedicated exclusively to one wedding if reserved way in advance and can house about 70 guests.
