Growing Market for Costa Rica Timeshares
Written by Claire
If you’ve heard about the burgeoning popularity of Costa Rica as an expatriate and tourist destination, it is no surprise that property prices are on the rise. Costa Rica is a country bursting with life. From verdant, colorful rainforests where eco-tourism is a favored vacation activity to its lively arts, music and dance culture, Costa Rica is a place to come for rejuvenation. In recent years, as development in the small country continues to grow, the timeshare industry has exploded.
Prominent golf and beachfront communities as well as single villas in Costa Rica are offering timeshare or shareholder options such as Los Delfines in Tambor, Villas Sol in Playa Hermosa, Costa Rican Villas, and even the Four Seasons.
Many vacationers are turning to timeshares as a convenient and cost-effective alternative to the rising price of luxury properties in popular tropical destinations. They are often less expensive than a hotel room of similar quality as well. That’s because the nature of timeshares dictates that they’ll be divided among multiple owners meaning that the cost to the individual is drastically reduced.
With a timeshare, owners are ensured weeklong, prepaid accommodations either annually or twice a year depending on the owner’s preference. When you buy timeshare you can rest assured that your lodging will have been secured long ahead of time, which means that you can spend your vacation concerning yourself with the things you love, rather than searching for appropriate accommodations.
Another growing trend in the Costa Rican vacation property industry is timeshare rentals. If you’re interested in buying a Costa Rican Timeshare, but would like to conduct some more research, you can always rent timeshare. Renting is a great excuse to vacation while determining if timeshares are right for you, and it’s also a great way to get to know a few of extremely diverse regions of the country so that if you do decide to buy a vacation property, you’ll know where you want to be. You’ll find timeshares for rent anywhere they’re for sale and renting a timeshare is also very cost-effective.
As timeshare availability increases, so does its popularity. An online search for Costa Rica timeshares will leave you with completely different results from one day to the next due to the high turn-over rate.
If you’re looking to save money on your purchase a good place to begin your search is the online resale market. The resale market is emerging as the most favored place to find timeshares because you can save thousands when you buy timeshare resale, and searching online only increases those savings. Because the internet has become the marketing haven that it is, competition among resellers and individuals is extremely high, driving the price for resale down. As the timeshare industry in Costa Rica continues to grow, lower priced vacation opportunities will open up exponentially.

Thanks for this info, I’m planning my 3rd trip to Costa Rica and I’m looking at a number of options. I know timeshares often provide excellent ways to travel, however, one thing consumers should be aware of is that many central and south american countries have lenient property laws, which lend themselves to frequent scams. To be honest, I’m not too aware of the climate in Costa Rica, but I know that companies in Mexico have been getting themselves in a bit of trouble: timeshareconsumergroup.org/fraud_mexican_alert.html
My advice is simply to stay safe, take the advice in the above article and check with local authorities before making any long-term purchases to see what your rights are. Some American companies also operate out of these countries and are listed on the BBB.
