Headed to Manuel Antonio and want to know where the Party is? Myself, a young guy who likes to go out and have a good time at night, was looking for the fun party spot this past Saturday night.
A friend I had met earlier that day on the beach mentioned a bar named Barba Roja and that it was the place to be, and it was. This is the first bar I’ve been to in Costa Rica that had any type of wait to get in, it also had a 5,000 colones entry fee ($10 American), only 1,000 colones for girls ($2). The wait wasn’t long, about 15 minutes, and was well worth it! Our 5,000 colones didn’t just pay for the biggest party of the night, but three drinks from the bar as well.
There is a large L-shaped bar to your left as you enter Barba Roja with 2 bar tenders working it, even though the bar was busy the drink wait was short. If you continue past the Main bar you reach a balcony where you are elevated a couple steps above a good sized dance floor with a dj spinning a mix of Salsa, Techno, Rap, Reggaeton, and more. Tonight the dance floor was completely packed, everyone dancing, after one song you’re guaranteed to be sweating like you just finished a marathon. What I really liked about Barba Roja is that past the dance floor there is an open area with a couple tables, this is the perfect spot if you feel like making a couple jokes with friends or meet someone new, and if you don’t feel like walking through the crowded dance floor get another drink Barba Roja has a second bar which over looks the Pacific Ocean. I will definitely be back at Barba Roja next time I stay at Manuel Antonio.
