From the USA to CR and Back and Forth…

Ever wondered what it’s like to live in a foreign country as an American?  This is my life, I am a United States Citizen, but work and live in Costa Rica.  The longer you stay abroad the more things which originally seems alien become the norm.  Home is still the same as you left it, people may have moved, found a new job, or be dating someone else, but it is still the same.

The Internet has really made the world a smaller place.  For practically no cost I am able to communicate through Email, Instant Messenger, Facebook, MySpace, or even video chat through Skype.  Staying in contact has been simplified significantly in the past couple years, the ability to download music, pictures and videos from anywhere in the world has also made it extremely easy to feel closer to home.  From my laptop I can view the pictures of my brother’s 21st Birthday Party, I can listen to the new Kanye West album that all my friends are hyping up, or I can watch the Redskin’s highlights through Youtube.

Traveling between Home and your Second Home has become much cheaper and easier plan.  Websites like Sidestep.com and Kayak.com allow you to find the cheapest flights on the net, and book them with your credit card.  If you time it right flying can be extremely affordable.

Moving to another Country is much like moving to another city (except for the language barrier), you are taken out of your comfort zone, but with time your new home becomes comfortable, through meeting people, learning the language and culture, and knowing where to go and what to do.

I highly recommend anyone live abroad, if anything it will at least be a great story.
