I have tried to get to Flor Blanca ever since I started working in Costa Rica since 2005 . I thought I had it clinched in 2006 when I had won an incentive trip to Flor Blanca hotel and was going to spend the weekend with my Mrs., however it was not to be. My wife’s mum got ill and I had to give it to a good friend so that he and his now wife could enjoy while I stayed in Shack San Jose. So I had been trying for the last year to go back and about 1 week ago somebody said do you want to go to Flor Blanca? Of course the arm was bitten off and I was on my way.

On arrival at the hotel after a 4 hour drive I was impressed and unimpressed. The guard at the gate house just looked at us while 3 of the women struggled with their bags. For a luxury hotel I thought there would be at least someone to carry the bags. This left a sour taste in my mouth as I am a hotel snob and can find ‘ho’s in the finest hotels, this comes from working in hotels and having taught people about luxury service and what people expect. Also I was not too happy as I had to carry my wife’s bag which was rather heavy.

The villa was very nice and spacious and i was surprised to see AC in the room. The villas were very large and very tropical. I can see that the openness and the bugs can get to some people so the property is not for every Tom, Dick and Harry. The decor is a very relaxed and cooling design with natural colors everywhere, I cannot put my finger on the design however it was kind of Moroccan Med style.

The food at the hotel was good, it was not as fantastic as I was expecting however it was good food, which is always hard to find in Costa Rica hotels. All-in-all a great luxury hotel with all the extras however there needs to be some work done on the service and some of the bar people did not even interact with guests.
