Welcome to Punta Islita
Written by nicole
Punta Islita is one of the most beautiful hotels in Costa Rica, with comfortable rooms, and wonderful service. Four of us from Costa Rican Vacations went for a one day inspection of Punta Islita. The Events Coordinator Marvin was our guide for the day. We took a flight early to get out of San Jose and promptly landed at the Punta Islita Airstrip where a van was waiting for us.
The road is a 6km dirt road leading up to Punta Islita, but it was in very good condition. I was impressed after being in San Jose for the rainy season and seeing some of the paved roads here!
When you arrive to the hotel, you are taken to a thatched roof building where they are waiting to serve you a wet towel and take you in to the restaurant for a drink. There is not much of a reception desk, more of a small office, and the building opens up to a beautiful restaurant next to the adult pool and wet bar. The pool here is an infinity pool and a wonderful place to get some R&R.
The food at the restaurant 1492 was incredible, everything I ate I loved! The pasta with shrimps and sun dried tomatoes was my favorite! The food at the rancho by the beach is also very tasty, I recommend the mixed ceviche for something different.
The rooms are not fancy, but they have a rustic elegance and are simply comfortable. We stayed in the two bedroom casita with private pool, and I thought this place was amazing. The ocean view is stunning and the amount of space was incredible, the pool, the hammocks, and the bed … everything was perfect and I wish I could have stayed and relaxed.

Hi,
Thanks for the information. If you can add more information on restaurants, attractions nearby, activities that we can pursue here it would be much better.
Thanks.
hi tripodyssey,
i visited islita to write an article about the opening of the art museum there. the main attractions in the area are going to be natural. surfing, horseback riding, rafting, turtle nesting, and beautiful secluded beaches. Islita is like the epitome of sustainable tourism, and the entire surrounding community has been incorporated into the livlihood of the hotel.. including educating them on how to start small companies that can contribute to the hotel, and art classes to teach them how to profit off of handicrafts. For nightlife, you might want to check out Samara, as it is the closest beach town of ‘decent’ size. but travel b/w nearby towns is iffy in the rainy season because of flooding.. in the dry season it shouldnt be a huge problem, just a bumpy ride.
