Weekend at Capitan Suizo in Tamarindo

This past weekend I was given the opportunity to visit Capitan Suizo Resort in Tamarindo.  It is in a perfect location just one kilometer outside of town and a mere 50 meters off the beach.  As you walk in an immediate sense of relaxation comes over you as the colors and decoration are neutral and not over bearing.  This may not be what everyone is looking for in hotel decoration but it is easy for the eye.

Half of the rooms are air conditioned while the other half, stay cool with ceiling fans.  We stayed in a non air conditioned room and the fans kept it cool enough for September but I am not sure that fact is true for the dry season.  The room had a tall ceiling which made it seem larger than it really was.  The bathroom was nothing special, somewhat small but got the job done.  My favorite part of the room was the balcony with wood lounges that are made on sight.  With views of the large trees and the ocean, it was a perfect place for a quiet moment.

The rest of the hotel was well kept but confused us as to what made it part of the Small Distinctive Hotels of Costa Rica.  The grounds are well kept and very natural looking with plenty of wildlife frolicking around and the pool is large and clean.  The beach front area is great with large lounges and hammocks protected from the sun and there are tables, a pin pong table, and kayaks to use.

The restaurant had a nice breakfast buffet with assorted breads, eggs, fruits, gallo pinto (that Lewis swears is the best in Costa Rica), and fruit juices.  The lunch and dinner menus have a variety of dishes ranging from salads to pastas to fish.  Overall the food was good and the service was fine as well.

All in all, the hotel is a very nice place to stay.  It is in the perfect retreat for busy people looking to relax but still like having the option of a bustling town to visit.
