The Manatus (average service great product)

The Manatus is nice hotel. The environment is beautiful as it is constructed in the middle of the jungle near Tortugero Costa Rica. You can see a lot of wildlife just walking around on the hotel property. The rooms are really clean thanks to the 3 maids for only 12 rooms. Every room has AC. The 12 rooms are exactly the same so you don’t have any superior rooms. They are planning on building one honeymoon suite that will be ready next year.

Tours are included at the Manatus hotel. Except for the turtle tour, you have to book this at the hotel ($35). If the clients are going on all the tours it is quit a busy schedule. We had the feeling that we were rushed. Only Saturday afternoon we had some time off. The tours themselves were nice. Only the order of the tours needs to be changed according to us. The canal tour is right after your arrival by boat. So basically you get out of one boat to get in the next. The guests who where with us really enjoyed the canal tour though! The hiking tour on Saturday is for adventurous people only! The trails are extremely muddy during the whole year. There was a lot of wildlife but also a lot of mosquitos. If you are up for it the hiking tour it is fun. The tour to Tortuguero village is fun for guests. They visit the beach and they can see how the people live their as well as shop for souvenirs. The transportation is for free but if you want to go to the village after 5:00 PM you have to pay for the water taxi.

The service at the hotel was not that great but it improved during our stay. The service at the restaurant also was not great. The waiters kept bringing us the wrong plates and their English was not good. On the other hand, the food was great! The Panamanian cook was really good. He came out of the kitchen to check if we were happy with our food. On Saturday he had 2 specials which were great. The menu was nice and the Manatus is the only hotel in the area that has an a la carte menu.

We had a great time!
