The Eclectic Fare of San Jose

So as it turns out, I have come all the way to Costa Rica not only experience a new country and all it has to offer, but to experience others as well. On Saturday, I was properly introduced to the Indian cuisine by two British buddies. They were the perfect hosts at the restaurant as they had grown up with plenty of Indian food in England. At first I was a bit skeptical, trying Indian food in Costa Rica? I thought it was going to be a bit mediocre. Well I was proven wrong.

We went to a restaurant about 10 minutes away from Rohrmoser called Taj Mahal. I looked at the menu and not only was this all new food, but it was in Spanish, so to say the least I am glad I had people there to help me. To start off, there were thin chip like pieces and three sauces on the table. I tried it thinking how bad could it be? Well let’s just say it was not my favorite. The newbies of the group were advised to get any form of Pollo Tikko. It is chicken baked in a unique oven and then coated in a sauce. This on the other hand was delicious. It was spicy and flavorful, the two necessities to a great dish. It came with this bread, which I think was called ‘nana’ that was absolutely fantastic. As dough it is planted on the side of an oven and as it slowly cooks it drips down the side. This was definitely my favorite.

So I was proven wrong. I did have to go all the way to Taj Mahal in San Jose, Costa Rica to be introduced to Indian food, but it just goes to show that amazing food can be found anywhere in the world no matter what country you are in.
