Costa Rica Peace Lodge
For anyone that has not been to Peace Lodge, it is truly amazing. The hotel consists of standard rooms and deluxe rooms and 1 monarch villa. Even the standard rooms are fantastic, with king size bed, fireplace, waterfall shower and jacuzzi on balcony. The deluxe rooms add a vaulted ceiling and a garden bathroom with waterfall jacuzzi.
There is a small pool and jacuzzi near the rooms and then a large freshwater pool near the trout lake. You can fish on the trout lake for free. A guide will accompany you, bait your hook, etc. If you catch a fish and want them to cook it, it costs $20 to eat at the little restaurant right there.
There is a butterfly observatory, hummingbird garden, serpentarium and, of course, the La Paz waterfall gardens all on the property. Guests of the hotel have free access. The service was outstanding. We arrived late, around 10pm, and they brought us free sandwiches minutes after we arrived in our room.
They have a dvd movie list and they bring the movies to your room minutes after you call the front desk to ask for them. Since I visited Peace Lodge, I always try to include it on an itinerary, whether it be the first night on the way from San Jose to Arenal or on the last night before departing from San Jose. I honestly think it will make someone’s vacation that much more special. I think that 1 night is sufficient, as long as guests have at least a few free hours to explore the grounds.
